Hugh Freeze Confirms Departure of Former Auburn CB, Praises New WR Addition!

In the latest Auburn Tigers news, former cornerback JD Rhym has found a new home at Houston, while head coach Hugh Freeze expresses excitement over the addition of wide receiver KeAndre Lambert-Smith.

Rhym, a member of Auburn’s 2022 recruiting class, is set to reunite with former Auburn football coach Zac Etheridge at Houston, where Etheridge currently coaches the Cougars’ defensive backs. During his two seasons at Auburn, Rhym contributed 20 total tackles, one interception, and two passes deflected.

Meanwhile, Freeze and his coaching staff have prioritized revamping the wide receiver position group during the offseason. Lambert-Smith, hailed as one of the top wide receivers in the transfer portal, recently committed to Auburn. Freeze sees Lambert-Smith’s four years of Power Five experience as a significant addition to the team’s receiving corps, particularly given the influx of young talent.

“Bringing in a highly productive receiver like Dre, with his experience at the Power Five level, is a big deal for us,” Freeze remarked, highlighting the importance of adding seasoned talent to complement the team’s youthful roster. Freeze acknowledges the need to restructure the receiver room to align with the team’s objectives, emphasizing the significance of Lambert-Smith’s arrival in achieving those goals.
