The summer brought uncertainty for Monahan as he faced the departure of close friend Johnny Gaudreau to the Columbus Blue Jackets in free agency and Matthew Tkachuk’s decision to move on to the Florida Panthers. Amidst rumors of a potential trade, including speculation around a Nazem Kadri signing, Monahan remained uncertain about his future, especially considering his recent recovery from a second hip surgery that limited his playtime to 65 regular-season games.
