Browns star sounds off after playoff fate is sealed…
The Cleveland Browns have lost their chance at securing the top seed in the AFC, with the Baltimore Ravens clinching the AFC North crown and the top conference seed after a dominant 56-19 victory against the Miami Dolphins. As a result, the Browns are now positioned as the No. 5 seed and are set to face the winner of the AFC South, likely to be determined among the Jacksonville Jaguars, Indianapolis Colts, and Houston Texans, all sporting 9-7 records going into the final week.
Despite missing out on the top seed, Browns safety Juan Thornhill remains unfazed, expressing readiness for the challenge ahead. He tweeted, “I really don’t care who we play or where we play them,” emphasizing the team’s preparedness regardless of the opponent. Notably, the Browns have already secured victories against potential AFC South opponents—the Jaguars, Colts, and Texans—earlier in the season.
While securing the No. 1 seed would have been advantageous, the Browns appear undeterred and ready for postseason action. The team has already secured a playoff spot with a victory over the New York Jets, marking only the third playoff appearance for the franchise since 1999. However, the Browns have set their sights beyond just making the playoffs, expressing a determination to push through and compete at a higher level.
Reflecting on their recent playoff experiences, the Browns reached the postseason in the 2020 season, defeating the Pittsburgh Steelers in the Wild Card game before succumbing to the Kansas City Chiefs in the Divisional Round. Now, the team aims to progress further and make a deeper playoff run.
As the Browns approach the final week of the regular season, where they face the Cincinnati Bengals, who have been eliminated from playoff contention, there is speculation that key starters may be rested. With little at stake in Week 18, the Browns may opt to rest players such as Amari Cooper, Elijah Moore, and Myles Garrett, who are dealing with injuries. Additionally, veteran quarterback Joe Flacco, who has had a notable run with multiple playoff appearances, might be spared from unnecessary risk in a game with no playoff implications. The Browns signed Jeff Driskel as a backup, likely to support PJ Walker in the season finale. This strategic approach aims to preserve key players and address injury concerns as the team prepares for the postseason.
