Cleveland Browns make starting QB decision that seems ‘surprised’ after signing of the 38-year-old talent…

The Cleveland Browns recently signed veteran quarterback Joe Flacco, but current starter Dorian Thompson-Robinson is expected to maintain his position for the time being. Flacco is set to assume a mentoring role for Thompson-Robinson, offering guidance and experience. Once Flacco familiarizes himself with the team’s offensive scheme, he may surpass PJ Walker on the depth chart, serving as a potential option if needed.

Reports from Mary Kay Cabot and Zac Jackson indicate that Thompson-Robinson is likely to remain the starter for now, with the team focusing on the rookie’s development. However, Flacco could become a viable option in December, providing a strong-armed insurance policy.

The decision to bring in Flacco comes in response to Deshaun Watson’s season-ending shoulder injury, prompting the need for a veteran presence in the quarterback room. Flacco, with 15 seasons of experience, is well-versed in the AFC North, having spent the majority of his career with the Baltimore Ravens.

Thompson-Robinson started against the Steelers, securing a 13-10 victory for the Browns. While the rookie had some struggles, he delivered a game-winning drive, earning praise from head coach Kevin Stefanski and cornerback Greg Newsome. The defense expressed confidence in Thompson-Robinson, with Newsome affirming, “We’re gonna ride with 17.”

With the win, the Browns moved to a 7-3 record, firmly in the AFC North race. Flacco’s addition is seen as a strategic move to enhance the team’s chances in the postseason. Known for his postseason success with a 10-5 playoff record, Flacco brings valuable experience, offering mentorship and leadership to players lacking significant playoff exposure.

Myles Garrett and Elijah Moore praised Flacco’s maturity, experience, and wisdom, emphasizing the veteran’s potential role as a consistent leader and mentor. As the Browns aim for postseason success, Flacco’s addition is anticipated to provide a valuable asset to the team.

Looking ahead, the Browns face the Denver Broncos, who are on a four-game winning streak, in their next matchup on the road.
