Victor Wembanyama Issues Strong Message to Knicks Ahead of 2026 NBA Finals
The San Antonio Spurs and New York Knicks are primed for a high-stakes showdown in the 2026 NBA Finals, kicking off with Game 1 this Wednesday at the Frost Bank Center.
At just 22 years old, Spurs sensation Victor Wembanyama is embraced by the bright lights, while the Knicks are chasing their first Larry O’Brien Trophy since 1973. This championship series carries deep historical weight, serving as a rematch of both the 1999 NBA Finals and the 2026 Emirates NBA Cup Final.
Wembanyama Reflects on the Knicks Challenge
During Media Day on Tuesday, Wembanyama shared his thoughts on facing New York on basketball’s grandest stage. The two squads have already crossed paths three times this season; they split their regular-season games, but the Knicks walked away with the NBA Cup.
Wembanyama offered high praise for his opponents, noting that New York’s Finals run is entirely earned.
“It’s a great team,” Wembanyama remarked. “It’s a great team of experienced guys who are not here by chance, but by relentless effort over the years and very different career paths for all of them. So, they’re right where they’re supposed to be, in my opinion, and all of them are going to be super hungry in their own way.”
Given that San Antonio and New York have split their season series every year since Wembanyama entered the league in 2023, fans can likely expect a grueling, back-and-forth battle for the title.
The Road to the Finals
Both teams took drastically different paths to secure their spots in the championship round:
While the Knicks enter the Finals on an absolute tear after back-to-back sweeps, the resilient Spurs proved their mettle by surviving a grueling seven-game Western Conference Finals to earn their first trip to the ultimate stage since 2014.
