Florida State has made a significant addition to its 2025 recruiting class by securing a commitment from top running back prospect Byron Louis, a four-star standout from American Heritage in Plantation, Florida. Louis chose the Seminoles over several high-profile programs, including Miami, Georgia, and Wisconsin.
FSU head coach Mike Norvell and running backs coach David Johnson have been actively recruiting Louis since early in the year. After hosting him for a visit in January, the Seminoles made him a top priority, maintaining regular communication throughout the process.
Louis, who visited all four of his finalists during June, took his time in making a decision. Unlike many recruits who commit during or shortly after official visits, he waited a few months before announcing his choice.
With Louis’ commitment, Florida State’s 2025 recruiting class now boasts 12 commitments and has climbed from No. 35 to No. 27 in the 247Sports Team Recruiting Rankings.
Louis is off to a strong start in his senior season, having already logged 65 carries for 466 yards and four touchdowns. His junior year was even more impressive, as he rushed 160 times for 1,224 yards and 18 touchdowns while adding seven receptions for 23 yards. In 2022, he tallied 439 rushing yards and 11 touchdowns on 55 carries.
Scouting Report (via Andrew Ivins)
Louis is a powerful, between-the-tackles runner who thrives in a downhill style, often breaking through initial contact. He’s quick to hit the holes with intensity and has shown the ability to make long runs, though he’s more of a power runner than an elusive one in the open field. As his senior season progresses, he’s becoming more involved in the passing game, showcasing potential as a three-down back with the strength to help in pass protection.
Known for his effectiveness in short-yardage situations and in the red zone, where he scored 18 touchdowns in 2023, Louis has proven himself against tough competition in South Florida. He projects as a multi-year contributor at the Power Five level, offering a reliable, physical presence in the backfield for FSU.
