Mike Baumann and Michael Pérez Acquired by Mariners from Orioles for Blake Hunt!

NEW YORK — The Seattle Mariners have acquired right-hander Mike Baumann and minor league catcher Michael Pérez from the Baltimore Orioles in exchange for catcher Blake Hunt.

Mike Baumann, 28, has pitched in 17 relief appearances for the Orioles this season, boasting a 1-0 record with a 3.44 ERA. He has struck out 16 and walked nine in 18 1/3 innings. Baumann was designated for assignment on Saturday following the Orioles’ activation of right-hander Grayson Rodriguez from the 15-day injured list.

Over his four seasons with the Orioles, Baumann has accumulated a 13-5 record with a 4.45 ERA in four starts and 90 relief appearances. Last season, he was particularly effective, going 10-1 with a 3.76 ERA in 60 relief appearances.

Michael Pérez, 31, has been playing at Triple-A Norfolk, where he hit .221 with two homers and 13 RBIs in 21 games this year. In his six major league seasons with Tampa Bay (2018-20), Pittsburgh (2021-22), and the New York Mets (2022-23), Pérez has a .179 average with 15 homers and 61 RBIs.

Blake Hunt, 25, has been impressive at Triple-A Tacoma, batting .293 with four homers and 20 RBIs in 23 games this year.

The Mariners are bolstering their pitching depth with this acquisition, while the Orioles add a promising young catcher to their roster.
