In a monumental night celebrating his third MVP trophy, Nikola Jokic delivered a masterclass performance, notching 40 points and dishing out 13 assists to guide the Denver Nuggets to a decisive 112-97 victory over the Minnesota Timberwolves in Game 5 of the Western Conference semifinals.

Joining Jokic in the spotlight was Aaron Gordon, contributing 18 points and securing 10 rebounds, while Jamal Murray and Kentavious Caldwell-Pope each added 16 points for Denver, who now leads the best-of-seven series 3-2 after a shaky start.

“He had 40, he missed seven shots on the Defensive Player of the Year and it felt like he had 50,” Murray praised Jokic’s stellar performance. “Whenever he gets it going like that you let him dictate how the game’s going to go.”

Jokic’s dominance was evident from the start, as he racked up 12 points in the opening quarter and another seven in the second to give Denver a solid 50-44 lead by halftime.

Despite a spirited effort from Minnesota, with Karl-Anthony Towns and Rudy Gobert contributing 23 and 18 points respectively, the absence of point guard Mike Conley due to right Achilles soreness proved to be a significant setback for the Timberwolves.

“We’re hopeful Mike can go in Game 6,” expressed Timberwolves coach Chris Finch, emphasizing the importance of the upcoming game on home turf.

Jokic’s MVP performance continued to shine in the third quarter, where he scored 16 points on an impressive 6-for-7 shooting, extending Denver’s lead to 88-74 heading into the final period.

Down the stretch, the Timberwolves attempted a comeback, narrowing the gap to 101-90, but Murray’s clutch plays in the final minutes secured the victory for the Nuggets.

“We’re trying to win every game,” Murray affirmed. “We’ve got to go in there with the same attitude we did the last time we went there.”

With Game 6 looming in Minneapolis, the Nuggets remain focused on maintaining their momentum and securing their spot in the next round of the playoffs.
