Jon Scheyer, head coach of Duke’s men’s basketball team, made a significant announcement on Monday, officially confirming the addition of Sion James to the Blue Devils’ 2024 recruiting class.

Hailing from Sugar Hill, Georgia, the 6-foot-6, 220-pound guard joins Duke after a successful four-year stint at Tulane. James boasts an impressive resume, having played in 114 career games, with 107 starts under his belt. Over his collegiate career, he accumulated 1,084 points, 520 rebounds, 337 assists, and 187 steals, showcasing his versatility and impact on the court.

James’ progression at Tulane was evident as he consistently improved his scoring and rebounding stats each season. In the 2023-24 season, he averaged 14.0 points, 5.4 rebounds, 2.7 assists, and 1.6 steals per game, while also displaying efficiency with shooting percentages of 51.4% from the field and 38.1% from beyond the arc.

Coach Scheyer expressed his excitement about James joining the Duke family, highlighting his leadership qualities, basketball IQ, and competitive spirit. Before his collegiate career, James was a standout player at Lanier High School, where he garnered accolades such as two-time Region 8A Player of the Year. His addition further strengthens Duke’s already formidable recruiting class, solidifying their position as a powerhouse in college basketball.
