There’s a buzz surrounding Duke basketball’s recruitment efforts, particularly with the recent social media activity indicating potential interest in former Tulane guard Sion James.
James, who has one year of eligibility remaining, is currently on an official visit to Duke and has garnered attention from Blue Devils’ head coach Jon Scheyer. Scheyer recently followed James on Instagram, a move reminiscent of his previous engagement with players like Mason Gillis, who eventually committed to Duke this offseason.
Notably, Duke’s official basketball account is also showing interest in James, adding to the speculation about a possible commitment. While social media engagement isn’t always indicative of final decisions, it underscores the program’s active pursuit of talent.
Tulane’s Sion James will test the 2023 NBA Draft waters, he tells me.
Powerful 6’6” point forward w/ a shredded frame + multifaceted two-way skill set. Timely cutter. Makes the extra pass. Walls up defensively. Sharp processor.

Although the 247Sports Crystal Ball hasn’t weighed in on James’ potential commitment to Duke, discussions on social media suggest growing anticipation regarding his potential addition to the Blue Devils’ roster. If James does commit, he would join an evolving squad under Scheyer’s leadership, currently comprising 10 scholarship players, with the possibility of James rounding out the lineup.
