A Promising Trend in Major College Football: Elite 4-Star RB Chooses Texas.

On3’s Justin Wells reports that Texas is leading the charge in securing the commitment of four-star running back James Simon.

Ranked as the 9th best running back prospect in the 2025 class and the 4th best player in Louisiana by On3 Industry Rankings, Simon hails from Calvary Baptist Academy in Shreveport, Louisiana.

According to the On3 Recruiting Prediction Machine (RPM), Simon’s top choices currently include LSU and Texas, with offers also coming in from prominent programs such as Notre Dame, Alabama, TCU, and others.

Texas’ recruiting efforts for the 2025 class have been impressive, currently standing at 9th nationally and 4th in the SEC. Their previous commitment from four-star running back Rickey Stewart Jr. adds depth to a class highlighted by talents like four-star EDGE Lance Jackson and four-star linebacker Elijah Barnes.

Simon’s junior season showcased his skills, tallying 1,600 rushing yards and 21 touchdowns, earning him recognition with first-team All-State and All-District honors.

As Texas gears up for its transition to the SEC, securing Simon’s commitment could prove pivotal in bolstering their competitiveness in the conference. The Longhorns’ consistent success in recruiting, marked by three consecutive Top 10 classes, indicates a strong trajectory that could extend to a fourth straight season.

Texas has a rich history of producing top-tier NFL running back talent, including legends like Earl Campbell, Ricky Williams, Cedric Benson, and Jamaal Charles, all of whom have left their mark on the football landscape from their time in Austin.
