Steelers’ GM Optimistic About Drafted Offensive Linemen’s Potential!
The Pittsburgh Steelers made a significant move in the 2024 NFL Draft, selecting three offensive linemen with their first five picks—a strategy not employed since nearly half a century ago. Their choices, however, were met with acclaim for their value and potential impact. Troy Fautanu from Washington was snagged at No. 20 overall, followed by West Virginia’s Zach Frazier in the second round and Mason McCormick from South Dakota State in the fourth.
General Manager Omar Khan and Assistant General Manager Andy Weidl have made rebuilding the offensive line a priority, and according to Pro Football Focus’ Gordon McGuinness, their efforts might result in one of the most impressive overhauls in NFL history.
McGuinness noted, “On paper, the offensive line rebuild the Steelers put together through the 2024 NFL Draft could go down as one of the best ever.” He highlighted Fautanu’s strong pass-blocking record, Frazier’s exceptional pressure rate, and McCormick’s impressive performance at a smaller school.
The addition of Fautanu addresses a long-term need at tackle, complementing Broderick Jones, the team’s first-round pick in 2023. Frazier fills the void at center, providing stability in the middle of the line, while McCormick adds depth and potential as a future starter.
The Steelers aim to return to their roots of strong offensive line play, stout defense, and a potent running game—a formula that has historically led to success.
