Elly De La Cruz slugs 3-run HR and Nick Lodolo works 6 strong innings as Reds beat Angels 7-1…

Reds Take Down Angels 7-1 Behind De La Cruz’s Heroics!

CINCINNATI — The Cincinnati Reds found their rhythm again, courtesy of Elly De La Cruz’s three-run homer and a solid pitching performance from Nick Lodolo, defeating the Los Angeles Angels 7-1 and halting a three-game skid on Friday night.

De La Cruz’s blast in the second inning set the tone for the Reds, propelling them to a much-needed victory. Meanwhile, Lodolo showcased his prowess on the mound, limiting the Angels to just one run over 6 1/3 innings. It marked Lodolo’s second impressive outing since returning from the injured list.

Despite the Angels’ Tyler Anderson putting up a strong performance, allowing only one earned run over seven innings, the Reds managed to capitalize on key opportunities. De La Cruz’s aggressive baserunning in the second inning, which led to a run on an errant throw, and Tyler Stephenson’s solo homer in the sixth inning kept the Reds ahead.

After Anderson’s departure, the Angels struggled to contain the Reds’ offense. Relievers Adam Cimber and José Cisnero faced difficulties, allowing five runs in the eighth inning, including De La Cruz’s three-run homer, his sixth of the season.

The Angels’ lone run came in the fifth inning on an RBI single by Jo Adell.

In terms of injuries, the Angels welcomed back INF/OF Brandon Drury, who served as the designated hitter after missing three starts due to hamstring tightness. The Reds, on the other hand, continued to deal with illness among their infielders, with Christian Encarnacion-Strand and Jeimer Candelario still sidelined. Additionally, they ended the rehab assignment of RHP Ian Gibaut due to renewed forearm discomfort and claimed INF Livan Soto off waivers from the Baltimore Orioles, optioning him to Triple-A Louisville.
