The Reds handed huge boost as another experienced star player returns from rehab…

Ian Gibaut, the right-handed reliever for the Cincinnati Reds, has made his comeback from a rehab assignment marred by ongoing forearm discomfort, as announced by the team today.

This season has seen Gibaut sidelined from pitching for the Reds. His journey back began on April 5th with a stint in Dayton, where he showcased his skills with a two-inning, shutout performance, including four strikeouts and just one walk. However, his progress was not seamless. Within three days, he was elevated to Triple-A Louisville, where he encountered challenges. In three appearances, he struggled to complete innings, twice reaching his pitch limit prematurely. Across these outings, he conceded five runs in just 2.1 innings, along with five hits, two walks, and two hit batters, though he managed to strike out three batters.

Notably, Gibaut’s fastball velocity, a hallmark of his career, experienced a slight dip during his rehab stint. Averaging over 95.0 MPH throughout his career, he clocked in just over 93 MPH during his time with Louisville. Although he briefly reached 94.3 MPH in one game, his velocity dropped to 93.1 MPH in his final outing before his recall.

Shifting gears to the minor leagues, recent attention has focused on the performance of Cam Collier, one of the Reds’ promising prospects. Collier, the Reds’ 2022 1st round draft pick, has been on a tear, exemplified by his recent display for the High-A Dayton Dragons. In a standout performance, he slammed two home runs as part of a three-hit night, adding to his impressive start to the season. With a batting average of .340, an OBP of.354, and a slugging percentage of.681, Collier has already amassed five home runs in just 11 games. This surge in power comes as a pleasant surprise, considering his modest six home runs in 111 games last season. Despite his youth at just 19 years old, Collier’s rapid development and offensive prowess signal a bright future ahead.
