Richie Wellens Speaks Out On Leyton Orient’s Pursuit of Championship Talent On The Next Transfer Window…

Idris El Mizouni, the Ipswich Town midfielder, has made quite an impression during his loan spells at Leyton Orient over the past few seasons. Since his arrival in 2022, El Mizouni has been instrumental in Leyton Orient’s journey, particularly aiding their promotion from League Two under the guidance of Richie Wellens last year.

Returning for a second stint at Brisbane Road last summer, the 23-year-old was poised to continue his impactful contribution. However, an unfortunate injury has sidelined him for the remainder of the season. Nevertheless, Wellens has made it clear that Leyton Orient should prioritize securing El Mizouni on a permanent basis during the upcoming transfer window.

El Mizouni’s contract with Ipswich Town expires in late June, with the club holding an option to extend his stay by another year. However, his future at Portman Road hinges on the club’s league status. Should Ipswich secure promotion to the Premier League under Kieran McKenna, El Mizouni’s chances of breaking into the first team are slim, thereby enhancing Leyton Orient’s prospects of securing his permanent signature.

Although El Mizouni has featured 26 times for Ipswich Town’s senior team since his arrival in 2017, temporary stints at Cambridge United and Grimsby Town have contributed significantly to his development. However, it’s his time at Leyton Orient that has truly seen him flourish, with 89 appearances, five goals, and three assists to his name.

Wellens sees El Mizouni as a vital asset to Leyton Orient’s squad, emphasizing his quality and potential. At just 23 years old, El Mizouni offers both present talent and future promise, making him a desirable acquisition for the club.

As Ipswich Town deliberates El Mizouni’s future, their primary focus remains on their promotion aspirations. Meanwhile, Leyton Orient, despite missing out on the playoffs, continue to strive for improvement, with recent defeats to Lincoln City and Peterborough United serving as motivation for the club to bolster their ranks for the next campaign.
