Ipswich Town’s gaze is fixed on Middlesbrough’s goalkeeper, Seny Dieng, as reported by The Telegraph. The club is eyeing a potential summer move, aiming to bolster their roster with another formidable shot-stopper to provide stiff competition for Vaclav Hladky for the starting position.
While Ipswich Town’s league status for the upcoming season remains uncertain, with aspirations of securing a Premier League promotion for the first time since 2002, they currently hold a favorable position atop the Championship table. However, the race is tight, with merely two points separating the top three contenders.
Should Ipswich secure promotion, it would mark consecutive ascensions, drawing significant attention to manager Kieran McKenna. With six games remaining, McKenna remains focused on navigating each match as it comes, prioritizing present achievements over future possibilities.
Nevertheless, discussions regarding future recruitment are already underway, with Seny Dieng emerging as an early transfer target. Dieng, who joined Middlesbrough this season, has performed admirably, holding the club’s number one position for a significant portion of the campaign despite a brief injury hiatus.
Although Middlesbrough’s season has seen its challenges, Dieng’s performances have been a highlight, accumulating nine clean sheets in 29 matches while conceding 38 goals. His consistent display of quality builds upon his previous successes with Queens Park Rangers.
Having signed with Middlesbrough in 2023 and with a contract running until 2027, acquiring Dieng’s services is likely to demand a substantial fee. Nonetheless, his readiness for a higher level of competition, coupled with international experience, makes him an enticing prospect.
Reportedly, Premier League outfit Newcastle United has also expressed interest in the 29-year-old, setting the stage for a potential bidding war this summer. However, it’s still early days, and Ipswich’s pursuit may hinge on their promotion prospects this season.
