Insider Reveals Potential Re-Signing of CB Chandon Sullivan by the Steelers

As the 2024 NFL season looms, cornerback Chandon Sullivan finds himself in the midst of uncertainty regarding his next destination. Sullivan, 27, has traversed through multiple teams over the past three seasons, earning the label of an NFL journeyman.

Mark Kaboly of The Athletic has spotlighted Sullivan as one of the Pittsburgh Steelers’ prime free-agent targets. Despite his transient NFL journey, Sullivan’s tenure with the Steelers in the previous season showcased promise, particularly in his role as a nickel corner.

In the 2022 season, Sullivan underwent a significant shift from being one of the most frequently targeted defensive backs to facing a mere 28 pass attempts, resulting in 17 receptions allowed and a solitary interception. While his contributions were notable, it’s clear that Sullivan primarily occupies a role-player position. Nevertheless, the Steelers lack an experienced nickel corner in their current roster, amplifying Sullivan’s appeal as a potential re-signing candidate.

During his stint with the Steelers last season, Sullivan showcased his versatility by featuring in all 17 games, tallying 22 tackles along with an interception, and even stepping up to start in two games when needed. Despite having previously held starting roles with the Green Bay Packers and the Minnesota Vikings, Sullivan adapted to a more specialized role within the Steelers, often contributing significantly to special teams.

Given the Steelers’ ongoing roster requirements, Sullivan’s potential return could provide a much-needed boost both in the cornerback rotation and as a special teams asset. While the Steelers may explore draft options to address these needs, integrating a seasoned veteran like Sullivan into the mix, alongside nurturing a rookie through training camp, could bolster the team’s overall prospects for the upcoming season.
