Reds crush 2 homers in ninth for walk-off win over Nats…

The Cincinnati Reds staged a thrilling comeback in the bottom of the ninth inning to secure a dramatic 6-5 victory over the Washington Nationals on Sunday. Will Benson ignited the late-game heroics with a clutch two-out, two-run homer, leveling the score before Christian Encarnacion-Strand sealed the deal with a decisive solo shot to left field.

Facing a precarious situation with just one strike away from defeat, Jonathan India showcased remarkable resilience in a tense 10-pitch showdown against Nationals closer Kyle Finnegan. India’s perfectly placed double down the left field line kept the Reds’ hopes alive. Moments later, Benson stepped up and delivered a powerful homer to left-center, swinging the momentum firmly in Cincinnati’s favor. Encarnacion-Strand, breaking free from an 0-for-12 slump, added to the jubilation with his own solo blast.

Lucas Sims shut down the Nationals in the top of the ninth, earning the win for Cincinnati and securing the series victory. The Reds had earlier found themselves trailing when Washington’s Trey Lipscomb smashed his first major league homer in the seventh inning, breaking a 3-3 tie. CJ Abrams and Lane Thomas also contributed with home runs for the Nationals, while Nick Martinez endured a tough start for the Reds, surrendering a towering shot to Abrams in the third inning.

Despite the early setback, Cincinnati fought back, manufacturing runs off Washington starter Jake Irvin. Jake Fraley and Benson led the offensive charge for the Reds, each collecting three hits, while Spencer Steer chipped in with a crucial two-run single. Benson, in particular, showcased his clutch hitting by driving in three runs on the day.

The Reds extended their lead in the fourth inning courtesy of Steer’s RBI single, with Elly De La Cruz crossing the plate after a triple. Lipscomb, building on his Saturday debut, made another memorable impact by launching his first major league home run off Buck Farmer. Farmer, however, managed to escape a bases-loaded jam in the seventh inning, preserving the Nationals’ narrow lead momentarily.

In a moment of heartbreak for Cincinnati, Benson’s valiant attempt to deny Lipscomb’s homer fell short, as the ball ricocheted off his glove and into the stands, giving the Nationals a brief 4-3 advantage. However, the Reds’ resilience shone through in the ninth inning, culminating in a thrilling walk-off win that left fans on the edge of their seats.
