“It’s Almost There”: Striker’s Encouragement as Promotion Beckons Before Showdown…

Colby Bishop is urging Pompey to harness the current wave of enthusiasm surrounding the football club to secure promotion.

The striker, known as the Magic Man, revealed his ambition to surpass the 20-goal mark in the league for the second consecutive season, following his brace in the 3-1 victory over Wycombe.

Bishop’s two goals at Adams Park brought his tally for the season to 18 league goals, contributing to Portsmouth’s unbeaten streak of 13 games under John Mousinho’s management.

With the win, Pompey now sit comfortably 11 points ahead of third-placed Bolton, needing just eight more points to secure their spot in the Championship, with six matches left to play.

The next significant hurdle comes in the form of a top-of-the-table clash against Derby County, scheduled for Tuesday under the lights at Fratton Park.

The momentum is building towards a climax, with a palpable synergy between the players and the fans. Bishop is urging for more of the same energy for the televised match.

He expressed, “We’re almost there. We need to maintain the excitement within the team. During these winning streaks, you feel invincible, and we need to keep that feeling going. Right now, I just want us to continue enjoying this ride.”

“The energy during away games and at home is undeniable. The fans seem to be getting louder with each game. We thrive on that, but we also need to stay grounded and not celebrate prematurely,” he added.

Bishop currently trails Charlton’s Alfie May by three goals in the race for the league’s top scorer, with his sights set on breaking the 20-goal barrier in League One for the second year running.

Reflecting on his performance, Bishop said, “Twenty goals is within reach. With six games left, I’m optimistic. While my recent scoring rate hasn’t been ideal, that’s the life of a striker. Sometimes, things don’t go as planned.”

“If you had told me I’d have 18 goals with six games remaining, I’d be pleased. It’s been a good season, and I’m content,” he concluded.
