Cowboys’ $62 Million Bust Signing Could Land With Super Bowl contender…

A potential move to the Baltimore Ravens could offer a fresh start for former Dallas Cowboys wide receiver Michael Gallup, who was recently released by the team. According to ESPN’s Adam Schefter, Gallup is set to visit the Ravens after a previous visit with the Carolina Panthers didn’t result in a deal.

Gallup, 28, was let go by the Cowboys on March 15 to save the team $9.5 million, as he was due $4 million guaranteed. Before his release, the Cowboys allowed him to explore trade options. Gallup, a third-round pick in the 2018 NFL draft, had been with the Cowboys throughout his six-year career and was initially seen as a significant contributor to the team’s offense, starting eight games in his rookie season.

Despite showing promise early on, especially with standout performances in 2019 and 2020, Gallup’s performance declined after signing a lucrative five-year, $62.5 million contract extension in 2022. Expected to step up as a primary receiver, Gallup’s output fell short, with only 73 receptions for 842 yards and six touchdowns over the past two seasons. His struggles were particularly evident following an ACL injury and the departure of fellow receiver Amari Cooper.

A change of scenery could potentially reignite Gallup’s career, with the Ravens in need of a replacement for recently released Odell Beckham Jr. With career totals of 266 receptions, 3,744 yards, and 21 touchdowns, Gallup brings experience and potential to his next team.

Meanwhile, the Cowboys have faced several departures this offseason, including defensive tackle Johnathan Hankins, who is joining the Seattle Seahawks after spending part of the 2022 season and all of 2023 with Dallas.
