The Sky Bet League One Manager of the Month for January goes to O’s manager, Richie Wellens.
Orient had an incredible start to 2024, defeating promotion-chasing Portsmouth, Bolton Wanderers, and Cambridge United, and finishing with a tie against reigning champion Reading.
Wellens’ team scored seven goals and allowed only one goal in the four games to secure 10 points out of a possible 12.
“January was fantastic for us, and I was delighted with all of our performances during the month,” the O’s head coach stated after accepting the prize. We have a lot of confidence heading into the last few months of the season after defeating teams like Portsmouth and Bolton, and it has been enjoyable to watch how much our young, talented squad has grown thus far.
They are a joy to collaborate with, and I look forward to seeing them grow in the future.
“Even though I’m the one accepting the prize, I must thank my players and staff. They all deserve the recognition just as much as I do since we work really well together as a team.”
To win the monthly award, Wellens defeated rivals Neil Critchley of Blackpool, Ian Evatt of Bolton, and Darren Ferguson of Peterborough United.
