‘I just don’t get it’: Martin Keown says something ‘ridiculous’ happened during Arsenal v Forest last night…

Arsenal legend Martin Keown expressed bewilderment at the sequence of events leading to Gabriel Jesus’ opening goal against Nottingham Forest, describing it as “ridiculous.” Speaking on TNT Sports, Keown couldn’t fathom the lax defending displayed by the hosts as Arsenal broke through. Despite the Gunners initially struggling to penetrate the Forest defense, they were gifted the breakthrough through a swift throw-in by Oleksandr Zinchenko.

The 26-year-old Jesus effortlessly maneuvered past two Forest defenders, capitalizing on the surprising amount of space afforded to him. From an acute angle along the byline, he skillfully poked the ball through Matt Turner’s legs at the near post. Keown, a revered figure from Highbury, expressed his astonishment at Jesus being allowed such freedom, particularly questioning the decision-making of World Cup winner Gonzalo Montiel and young defender Andrew Omobamidele.

Keown pondered, “How has Jesus got that kind of space? It’s really ridiculous… Jesus is all on his own, and Omobamidele should go across. He’s a young defender, but I just don’t get it.” While Arsenal dominated proceedings at the City Ground, they had to cling on for victory despite initially adding a second goal through Bukayo Saka in the 72nd minute, assisted by Jesus and Martin Odegaard.

Despite Forest offering little resistance, they managed to pull one back late in the game as Taiwo Awoniyi exploited a defensive lapse, beating William Saliba and blasting the ball past David Raya. However, Arsenal ultimately secured a crucial win, with the defense shutting up shop to claim three vital points. The victory propelled them two points behind Premier League leaders Liverpool, even though it seemed they could have extended their lead further with more goals against a lackluster Forest side.
