Former Phillies’ star Rhys Hoskins shares confident setback update after signing with the Brewers…

After parting ways with the Philadelphia Phillies, Rhys Hoskins, the Milwaukee Brewers’ new addition, has provided a positive update on his injury status and outlined his goals for the 2024 season.

Hoskins, who endured an entire 2023 season on the sidelines due to an ACL injury sustained during spring training, is eager to make a comeback with the Brewers. This setback was particularly disheartening for the slugger, considering his stellar performance in the preceding season, where he contributed significantly to the Phillies’ journey to the World Series by slamming 30 home runs.

In a recent discussion with Adam McCalvy of MLB.com, Hoskins shared insights into his upcoming season with the Brewers. The key takeaways from this conversation include his confidence in being fully ready for the start of the training camp despite missing the previous season due to the ACL injury. Additionally, Hoskins expressed that the Brewers were a preferred destination for him from the beginning of free agency, describing Milwaukee as a “great paper fit.” His motivation for the upcoming season is evidently high, with him remarking, “I’m pretty bored as a competitor.”

Despite not having earned an All-Star designation, Rhys Hoskins is recognized for his considerable potential. His MLB debut in 2017 with the Phillies showcased early signs of stardom, leading to NL Rookie of the Year consideration. The breakthrough came in 2018 when he boasted an impressive .850 OPS, along with 34 home runs and 96 RBIs. Although his batting average experienced a dip in 2019, Hoskins maintained a noteworthy .364 OBP and led the league in walks with 116.

The subsequent seasons, including the abbreviated 2020 season and 2021 campaign, demonstrated Hoskins’ consistent performance. In 2022, he recorded 30 home runs while maintaining a slash line of .246/.332/.462/.794.

Analyzing his strengths, Rhys Hoskins brings reliable power from the right side of the plate. If he stays healthy, there’s an expectation that he could deliver between 25-35 home runs. Furthermore, Hoskins possesses a keen eye at the plate, allowing him to get on base at an impressive rate.

The Milwaukee Brewers, who have traditionally relied on their pitching staff, are anticipating a boost from Hoskins’ addition to their lineup. Recognizing the team’s need for another impactful bat, the Brewers view Hoskins as having the potential to be the perfect fit for their roster in the upcoming season.
