QUITE SAD: Bombers re-sign popular, reliable receiver Wolitarsky to two-year deal…

The Winnipeg Blue Bombers have extended the contract of the well-liked and dependable receiver, Drew Wolitarsky, for a two-year term. The 28-year-old Californian, who holds Canadian status due to his Montreal-native parents, is set to embark on his seventh season with the Bombers in 2024. Despite the potential to become a free agent on Feb. 13, Wolitarsky’s commitment to the team remains strong.

Coming off his most successful CFL season, Wolitarsky achieved career highs in receptions (47), yards (668), and touchdowns (six), participating in all 18 regular-season games and two postseason matchups. Having been selected by the Bombers in the 2017 supplemental draft, he has amassed 2,551 yards and 17 touchdowns over 86 regular season games.

While not the primary target for quarterback Zach Collaros, Wolitarsky has consistently delivered crucial catches when needed, contributing significantly to the Bombers’ status as the CFL’s most potent offensive team last season. Beyond his on-field contributions, Wolitarsky has played a vital role in the team’s culture, exemplifying a laid-back, surfer-dude demeanor coupled with fierce competitiveness.

Having been instrumental in the Bombers’ four consecutive Grey Cup appearances and two victories, Wolitarsky is part of the team’s core identity established over the last five years. The Bombers have secured contracts with nine of their 36 potential free agents, including key players like Stanley Bryant, Pat Neufeld, Willie Jefferson, Cam Lawson, Tanner Cadwallader, Brian Cole, Deatrick Nichols, and Redha Kramdi.

As the free-agent negotiation window approaches on Feb. 4, notable players, including star running back Brady Oliveira, leading receiver Dalton Schoen, Jackson Jeffcoat, Ricky Walker, Jake Thomas, Chris Kolankowski, Geoff Gray, Brandon Alexander, and Demerio Houston, are still awaiting contract extensions.
