In the realm of free agency, former St. Louis Cardinals standout Jordan Montgomery has emerged as a highly sought-after player this offseason. As one of the premier free agents available, numerous teams are eager to bolster their starting rotations, expressing considerable interest in signing him.

While the destination for Montgomery remains uncertain, the Texas Rangers currently stand out as the most probable landing spot, as suggested by MLB.com’s Mark Feinsand. According to Feinsand, a return to Texas makes logical sense for Montgomery, who played a key role in guiding the Rangers to their first-ever World Series title last fall. Notably, a local barbecue establishment near Globe Life Field has even joined the effort to entice Montgomery back to Texas, offering the left-handed pitcher a lifetime supply of BBQ if he chooses to re-sign with the Rangers.

Despite the apparent alignment of factors pointing towards a Texas reunion, Montgomery’s decision may be influenced by a market that, with the exception of the Los Angeles Dodgers, has displayed reluctance to engage in significant deals. The Rangers remain the most fitting choice for Montgomery, although he has also been linked to other teams such as the New York Yankees, Boston Red Sox, Philadelphia Phillies, Los Angeles Angels, and San Francisco Giants in recent weeks.

Montgomery’s notable performance in 2023, split between the Cardinals and the Rangers, showcased his excellence, particularly in the latter part of the season following his trade from St. Louis to Texas. The imposing left-hander played a crucial role in the postseason, contributing significantly to the Rangers’ journey to a World Series triumph.

Considering Montgomery’s successful track record and contributions to the Rangers’ championship run, a return to Texas in 2024 would not be surprising.
