Estonian basketball sensation Henri Drell has secured a significant milestone in his career by signing a two-way contract with the NBA’s Chicago Bulls. The 23-year-old player, who had the option to return to Europe this summer, expressed that his decision to remain with the Bulls’ G League affiliate, Windy City Bulls, over the past two seasons has proven to be a wise choice.

Renowned NBA journalist Shams Charania reported the signing, with Drell’s agent, Matt Bollero, confirming the two-way contract. Drell has been a key player for the Windy City Bulls in the last two seasons, showcasing his skills in 11 games this season with an average playing time of 28 minutes. During these appearances, he has maintained an impressive performance record, averaging 12.4 points, 6.8 rebounds, and 2.5 assists per game.

Recalling the moment when he learned about the Bulls’ contract offer, Drell shared the excitement during a G-League Sunday broadcast. Coach Henry Domercant called him into his office after a game and practice session, initially raising concerns, only to reveal the contract offer, marking a pivotal moment in Drell’s career.

Drell wasted no time sharing the news with his mother, emphasizing the surreal nature of the announcement. Reflecting on the significance of his achievement, he expressed a desire to follow in the footsteps of the only other Estonian player to have graced the NBA court, Martin Müürsepp. Müürsepp, who played for the Miami Heat and later the Dallas Mavericks, left an indelible mark in Estonian basketball history. Drell aims to continue this legacy, acknowledging the special feeling of putting his country back on the basketball map.

Henri Drell’s journey to the NBA represents a rare and historic achievement for Estonian basketball, marking him as a promising talent with aspirations to contribute to his country’s presence on the international basketball stage.
