The scarcity of fit senior strikers in the squad, with Emmanuel Latte Lath being the sole available option due to injuries to Josh Coburn, Marcus Forss, and Riley McGree, creates an opportunity for Kavanagh. Although his goal-scoring record during loan spells with Harrogate and Newport may not be stellar, Kavanagh, a Republic of Ireland U17 international, possesses significant potential. He has previously attracted interest from clubs like Chelsea and Arsenal.
While Kavanagh might not be the immediate solution to Middlesbrough’s challenges, his presence in the squad during the festive period could prove beneficial. Carrick’s management of young players, evident in their gradual integration and success, suggests that Kavanagh could thrive given the opportunity.
