“Fully deserved” – Portsmouth boss Mousinho ‘hails great’ impact from the 24-year-old after Bolton Wanderers 2-0 remarkable victory…

Portsmouth manager John Mousinho has praised Kusini Yengi for his outstanding performance and fully deserved goal in their 2-0 victory against Bolton Wanderers. The win puts Portsmouth six points clear at the top of the League One table, with Conor Shaughnessy also finding the back of the net.

Yengi, 24, effectively led the attacking line for Portsmouth and engaged in a commendable battle with Bolton’s center-back, Ricardo Santos. Mousinho appreciated the intensity of the duel, stating, “The battle was unbelievable, and he’s one of the best center-backs in the league, so for Kusini to do that in his second league start was great.”

Mousinho emphasized Yengi’s well-deserved goal, attributing it to his leadership on the pitch and the team’s high pressing strategy. The manager highlighted Yengi’s physical fitness and commended the importance of having a strong squad.

Yengi, signed by Portsmouth in the summer, has seamlessly adapted to English football. His contract at Fratton Park extends until 2025, and he has become a fan favorite with his impressive performances. In the current season, he has scored six goals in 13 appearances across all competitions, with three goals in the league.

The absence of Colby Bishop due to injury was a setback for Portsmouth, but Yengi’s stellar performance against Bolton demonstrated his capability to excel at this level. The Australian international started his senior career at Adelaide United, contributing six goals in 28 games for the A-League side. He then spent the previous year with Western Sydney Wanderers, scoring four goals for the New South Wales club before making the switch to the Football League.

Portsmouth’s victory over Bolton reinforces their confidence as they strive for promotion to the Championship. With positive momentum, they look ahead to their upcoming fixture against Shrewsbury Town, aiming to continue their successful campaign in League One.
