Malik Cunningham seized a more promising opportunity beyond what the New England Patriots offered and has officially joined the Baltimore Ravens, confirming the move on Tuesday. ESPN’s Adam Schefter initially reported the Ravens signing Cunningham from the Patriots’ practice squad, ensuring he concludes the season with Baltimore, a team currently contending for the top spot in the AFC playoffs.
Expressing gratitude to Mr. Kraft and Coach Belichick for the chance with the Patriots, Cunningham acknowledged the valuable lessons learned and relationships built. Despite appreciating the experience, he cited the Ravens as a favorable opportunity and expressed excitement about becoming a Baltimore Raven.
Cunningham now becomes part of the Ravens’ quarterback depth, led by Lamar Jackson. Although potentially facing increased competition, Cunningham’s path to the field might be more challenging than his time behind Mac Jones and Bailey Zappe in New England. Despite uncertainties in New England’s quarterback position, Cunningham only saw six offensive snaps during his tenure with the Patriots.
A Louisville product, Cunningham played alongside Jackson during his collegiate years at the Cardinals. As a prolific record-breaker in college, the 25-year-old joined the Patriots as an undrafted free agent. With a confirmed departure from New England, Cunningham is eager to embrace the fresh opportunity presented by the Ravens.
