It seems Giannis Antetokounmpo and the Milwaukee Bucks are gearing up to turn things around heading into the 2024-25 season.
To say the last two seasons have been disappointing for the Milwaukee Bucks would be an understatement. Despite Giannis Antetokounmpo playing at an MVP level, the Bucks have struggled in the postseason, exiting in the first round for the past two years. This past season was especially tumultuous, with first-year head coach Adrian Griffin being replaced by Doc Rivers after a 30-13 start. Under Rivers, the team went 17-19, losing their sense of identity.
The big question now is whether the Bucks can regroup during the offseason or if their window for a championship is closing.
One thing is certain: Giannis is determined to rally his team for the 2024-25 season, which could be pivotal for the Bucks’ core group. While Milwaukee faces important offseason decisions, Antetokounmpo is already firing up fans on social media.
“Milwaukee, THANK YOU,” Giannis posted. “This season didn’t end the way we wanted it to, but I promise you we will get back to where we belong and they’re going to give us our damn flowers.” He concluded his message with a bouquet of flowers emoji, symbolizing his confidence and gratitude.
Giannis is eager for the new season to begin. His first season with Damian Lillard did not go as planned, and the Bucks are on a mission to prove they remain championship contenders. Their success will largely depend on the decisions made by the front office this summer.
Giannis Antetokounmpo and the Bucks Face Offseason Questions
The Bucks’ core players, including Antetokounmpo, Lillard, Khris Middleton, and Brook Lopez, are all under contract for at least the next two seasons. However, with these players, along with Bobby Portis, combining to earn over $164 million, Milwaukee has limited flexibility for key roster additions. They are dangerously close to crossing the second apron, which would restrict their ability to make trades and sign free agents.
One scenario the Bucks might consider is moving Portis in a package deal that could include either Middleton or Pat Connaughton to acquire a more dynamic star alongside Giannis and Lillard. Another consideration is replacing Lopez in the frontcourt as he enters the final year of his deal at age 36.
Malik Beasley, who led the team with 224 triples this season, is likely to seek other opportunities in free agency after his productive year on a minimum contract in Milwaukee. Despite these potential changes, the Bucks believe that as long as Giannis and Lillard are healthy, they can compete with any team in the league.
