Seattle Mariners star outfielder Julio Rodríguez has finally broken his silence on the swirling rumors about a possible wedding with Canadian soccer standout Jordyn Huitema. The couple, who have been in a highly publicized relationship for more than a year, have frequently shared glimpses of their time together on social media — fueling constant speculation among fans about whether wedding bells might be on the horizon.
In a recent interview following the Mariners’ latest homestand, Rodríguez addressed the rumors head-on with a strong and candid message.
“I know people are curious, and I appreciate the love and support,” Rodríguez said. “But when it comes to something as personal as marriage, Jordyn and I are taking things at our own pace. We’re focused on building our relationship the right way — with love, trust, and understanding.”
The 23-year-old emphasized that while they are “incredibly happy together,” the constant speculation about engagements and wedding plans can sometimes overshadow the foundation they are working to build as a couple.
“We’re both young, ambitious, and committed to our careers,” Rodríguez added. “We support each other 100%, and that’s what matters most. If and when that time comes, people will know — but it’s going to be on our terms.”
Huitema, a professional soccer player for the NWSL’s Seattle Reign FC and a Canadian international, has also remained private about the matter, though the pair have often been spotted attending each other’s games and events. Their mutual admiration and public affection have made them one of the most beloved sports couples on the West Coast.
Fans took to social media quickly following Rodríguez’s comments, praising his maturity and respect for privacy, while also expressing continued support for the couple’s future — wedding or not.
For now, the Mariners slugger is focused on helping lead his team to a postseason push, while Huitema continues to shine on the pitch. And as Rodríguez made clear, they’re both fully committed — just not rushing down the aisle.
“We’re happy,” he concluded. “That’s what matters most.”
