In an act of extraordinary generosity and selflessness, Philadelphia Phillies third baseman Alec Bohm has donated his entire $20 million signing bonus and endorsement earnings to charitable causes focused on homelessness, hunger, and veteran support, the team confirmed on Thursday.

Bohm, 28, stunned fans and the baseball community when he made the announcement during a press conference at Citizens Bank Park. The gesture, he said, was something he had been planning for years — not for publicity, but out of genuine compassion for those who need it most.

“There are millions of people struggling every day — families without homes, kids without food, veterans without support,” Bohm said, visibly emotional. “If I can be a small part of helping them get back on their feet, that means more to me than any home run or trophy.”

The $20 million will be distributed across multiple organizations, including Feeding America, Habitat for Humanity, Wounded Warrior Project, and several local shelters and relief groups in Philadelphia, Omaha (his hometown), and other MLB cities.

Team owner John Middleton praised Bohm’s character and leadership, calling it “one of the most inspiring acts of humanity I’ve seen in professional sports.”

“Alec plays the game the right way, but more importantly, he lives his life the right way,” Middleton said. “He’s setting an example that goes far beyond baseball.”

Bohm, a fan favorite and a key pillar of the Phillies’ infield, has grown into a clubhouse leader both on and off the field. While his numbers have continued to impress — hitting .314 with 6 home runs and 28 RBIs this season — it’s his impact beyond the diamond that’s capturing hearts.

Social media exploded with admiration following the announcement, with fellow players, fans, and celebrities applauding the move. Some compared Bohm’s gesture to historical acts of giving from athletes like Roberto Clemente and LeBron James.

This comes just days after Bohm signed a new contract extension with the Phillies, solidifying his role as a long-term face of the franchise.

“I’ve been given so much,” Bohm added. “Now it’s my turn to give back.”
