In a jaw-dropping move that is set to shake up the AFC, the Pittsburgh Steelers have officially sealed a blockbuster deal to acquire star running back Josh Jacobs, sending a clear message that they’re all-in on making a serious playoff push.
The team confirmed the news Monday afternoon, ending days of speculation surrounding Jacobs’ future. After months of uncertainty in Las Vegas, the former Pro Bowl running back now has a new home in Pittsburgh — and the Steelers have landed one of the NFL’s most dynamic offensive weapons.
Jacobs, 26, brings immediate firepower to a Steelers offense that has been searching for consistency in the run game. A bruising yet agile back with elite vision and contact balance, Jacobs led the NFL in rushing yards in 2022 and has amassed over 5,800 yards on the ground since entering the league as a first-round pick in 2019.
“We’re thrilled to bring Josh Jacobs to Pittsburgh,” head coach Mike Tomlin said in a statement. “He’s a proven playmaker, a tough competitor, and the kind of high-character guy that fits what we’re building here.”
While terms of the deal have not yet been officially disclosed, sources indicate the Steelers gave up a combination of draft capital and potentially a rotational player to land Jacobs. The move pairs him with rising young quarterback Kenny Pickett and adds a major threat to a backfield that also includes Najee Harris — opening the door for a thunder-and-lightning duo that could become one of the league’s most feared.
Jacobs reportedly welcomed the trade, expressing excitement about joining one of the NFL’s most storied franchises. “It’s a blessing to be a Steeler,” Jacobs said via social media. “I’m ready to get to work and bring that energy to the ‘Burgh.”
The addition of Jacobs not only bolsters the offense but significantly upgrades Pittsburgh’s ability to control the tempo of games, particularly in the cold-weather months when a strong run game is essential. With the Steelers defense already among the league’s elite, this move could help complete the puzzle on the other side of the ball.
The AFC North just got even tougher. And the Pittsburgh Steelers just got a whole lot better.
