In a development that could reshape the second half of the Braves’ season, Atlanta Braves President of Baseball Operations Alex Anthopoulos made a major announcement concerning superstar Ronald Acuña Jr. following an internal strategy meeting with team executives and coaching staff.
Speaking at a press conference held at Truist Park Saturday morning, Anthopoulos confirmed that Acuña will not only return to full game action this coming week but will also assume a newly expanded leadership role within the organization both on and off the field.
“Ronald is not just our most talented player—he’s our emotional engine,” Anthopoulos said. “After meeting with our coaches and front office staff, we agreed it’s time to lean into his leadership more intentionally. He’ll be a key voice in the clubhouse moving forward.”
The announcement comes as the 27-year-old Venezuelan phenom wraps up a rigorous rehab program following the ACL injury that ended his 2024 season prematurely. His return, initially expected later this summer, was fast-tracked after medical clearance and impressive showings during his Triple-A rehab stint in Gwinnett.
According to Anthopoulos, Acuña will rejoin the Braves’ starting lineup on Tuesday night, when Atlanta hosts the Philadelphia Phillies in a crucial NL East matchup. Acuña is expected to reclaim his role as the team’s leadoff hitter and right fielder immediately.
In addition to his on-field duties, the Braves are empowering Acuña to work more closely with young international players in the organization. Sources say the team has quietly been developing a mentorship platform that Acuña will help lead, starting with international signees set to arrive this summer.
“Ronald has grown tremendously as a professional,” manager Brian Snitker added. “He’s taken younger guys under his wing, he’s engaged in team meetings in new ways—we’re watching him mature into more than just a superstar. He’s becoming a leader in every sense.”
Fans erupted across social media following the announcement, with #RonaldReturns trending on X (formerly Twitter) within minutes. Many see the move as a pivotal moment for a team still firmly in the postseason hunt despite injuries and lineup inconsistency.
With Acuña back in action and more involved than ever, the Braves are not only getting their MVP back—they’re reinforcing the heart and soul of their clubhouse.
