Philadelphia Phillies fans can officially rejoice—Alec Bohm, the beloved fan-favorite and sensational third baseman, has finally agreed to a long-term contract extension with the team, putting months of speculation to rest and reinforcing the franchise’s commitment to its homegrown stars.
The Phillies announced the deal Saturday morning in a press release that immediately sent shockwaves across the baseball world. The contract is reported to be a 6-year deal worth $88 million, locking Bohm in through the 2030 season.
“This is a huge day for our organization,” said Phillies President of Baseball Operations Dave Dombrowski. “Alec has grown into a cornerstone player, both on the field and in the clubhouse. His dedication, consistency, and passion for the game embody what it means to wear the Phillies jersey.”
Bohm, 28, has become a staple in the Phillies’ lineup and a trusted presence at the hot corner. After early career ups and downs, Bohm turned the corner with a breakout season in 2023 and has only improved since. In 2024, he slashed .285/.341/.458 with 20 home runs and 90 RBIs, helping to power the Phillies into postseason contention yet again.
His improved defense at third base and ability to come through in clutch moments have endeared him to fans, who chanted his name regularly at Citizens Bank Park.
“I love Philly. I love this team. And I love the fans,” Bohm said in his press conference following the announcement. “This is home, and I couldn’t be happier to keep building something special here.”
The long-anticipated extension stunned many around the league who expected Bohm to test the open market or wait for arbitration to play out. With several other top-tier infielders heading into free agency soon, the Phillies’ proactive move is seen as a major win for the organization.
“Smart move by Philly,” tweeted MLB Network’s Jon Morosi. “Bohm may not be as flashy as others, but he’s a glue guy with real All-Star potential. Great value for both sides.”
