In a moment that has sent shockwaves through the Auburn basketball community, 22-year-old guard Miles Kelly has made a major announcement that has left fans stunned — and even left head coach Bruce Pearl speechless.

During a press conference initially scheduled to discuss offseason workouts, Kelly unexpectedly took the mic and announced that he would declare for the 2025 NBA Draft, officially ending his collegiate career with the Auburn Tigers after just one season with the program.

“After long conversations with my family and Coach Pearl, I’ve decided to pursue my lifelong dream and declare for the NBA Draft,” Kelly said. “Auburn gave me everything I could have asked for — this place helped me grow as a player and as a man.”

Kelly transferred to Auburn from Georgia Tech and quickly became one of the team’s most electric and dependable players. Known for his scoring touch, athleticism, and leadership, he averaged 15.9 points, 4.8 rebounds, and 2.3 assists per game during the 2024–25 season, helping the Tigers reach the NCAA Tournament and earn national attention.

While speculation had swirled about his NBA potential, many insiders expected Kelly to return for one more season to solidify his draft stock. Instead, the young star felt the time was now.

“I’m proud of Miles,” Coach Pearl said, clearly emotional. “He came in here, worked his tail off, and made us better. I’m speechless, but I support him completely.”

Kelly’s departure will undoubtedly leave a hole in Auburn’s backcourt, but it also opens the door for other young talent to emerge — and for Pearl to continue recruiting at an elite level.

For Kelly, the journey is just beginning. Early mock drafts project him as a late first-round or early second-round pick, with his upside and versatility making him a hot commodity among NBA scouts.

Social media lit up with messages of support from Auburn fans, teammates, and even rival players — many praising his work ethic and humble demeanor both on and off the court.

“Forever a Tiger,” Kelly added. “No matter where I go, Auburn will always be a part of me.”
